Salesforce is pulling the “Agentforce” label off several of its flagship products days before Dreamforce opens in San Francisco on September 15, according to The Information, which cites two people with direct knowledge of the decision. It’s a quiet reversal of a two-year brand consolidation that had extended Agentforce across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Commerce Cloud, Field Service, and Revenue Cloud, and that Marc Benioff had at one point extended to a proposal to rename Salesforce Tower as Agentforce Tower.
The stated problem is legibility. Enterprise buyers, per Value Add Pulse’s account of the reporting, “reportedly struggled to map Agentforce-branded product names back to the actual Sales Cloud, Service Cloud or Marketing Cloud products their teams already use day to day.” Two years of aggressive AI naming produced a portfolio that no longer resembled the one procurement had a purchase order for.
The retreat is partial, and that’s the interesting part. On September 11, Salesforce announced seven “job-ready” Agentforce agents with human first names: Hunter for outbound sales, Piper for inbound, Casey for service, Carter for commerce, Paige for IT and HR, Marshall for supply chain, and Fin for customer experience. The umbrella brand is being stripped off the platform layer even as it’s being pressed down onto anthropomorphized personas. One reading is that Salesforce has decided buyers can parse a coworker but not a cloud.
The commercial case for keeping the label somewhere is real. Salesforce says Agentforce and Slack collectively delivered 7 billion “Agentic Work Units,” with 3.2 billion in the second quarter alone. Agentforce ARR crossed $1.5 billion in fiscal 2027 Q2, up more than 240 percent year over year, a figure that now folds in Slackbot and the API-first Headless 360. Hunter, still in pilot until November 2026, is credited by one customer with building 60 percent of its sales pipeline.
Sitting beneath all of it’s its Claudeforce integration with Anthropic, which quietly opened the platform to outside agents and complicates any story in which Agentforce is the single front door.
The Dreamforce keynote on September 15 will decide whether this is cosmetic housekeeping or an admission that the market for AI sales tools has been sold ahead of what buyers can actually operate. When the category leader concedes its own naming confused the room, the pricing power of the naming itself is what’s really up for revision.
