Amazon on Tuesday scrapped its Ads Console at the unBoxed conference in San Francisco and replaced it with Amazon Ads Agent, a single AI-run interface that folds the old Sponsored Ads console, the DSP, and streaming display, video and audio inventory into one buying surface open to every U.S. advertiser at a $100-a-day minimum.
The unification is the news. The pricing is the strategy. What was until this week three separate buying environments, each with its own operational learning curve and, in the case of DSP, a de facto managed-service tax, is now one workflow where advertisers hand over a budget, product feeds and creative, and let Amazon’s models decide the rest. MediaPost reports the platform organizes buying into three campaign types: Sponsored Ads, DVA+, and Full-Funnel Campaigns.
Kelly MacLean, a vice president at Amazon Ads, framed the shift as “bringing the power of programmatic advertising to all advertisers,” and described the model as “human-led AI supported.” That second phrase does real work. In Full-Funnel Campaigns, advertisers approve creative but, per Amit Bhattacharyya, vice president of full-funnel products, AI and modeling at Amazon Ads, can’t select individual channels or specific audiences. Bhattacharyya told Digiday that advertisers had already been stitching Sponsored Ads and DVA together on their own, and the new product was designed to make the connection automatic. He also acknowledged that Amazon is “figuring out how to give them more transparency on the audience side.”
The proof point Amazon put forward is Canine Naturals, a dog-treat brand whose 206-day full-funnel campaign produced 41 percent of sales from new-to-brand shoppers. “I don’t have to do anything, just give it all the assets and it’ll figure it out,” said Brenda Quintana, the company’s digital marketing manager. It’s a testimonial and, more usefully, a specification of who the product is aimed at: operators without a media buyer.
The regulatory backdrop is unsubtle. Amazon disputes an August lawsuit from the Federal Trade Commission and 22 state attorneys general alleging undisclosed surcharges in its Sponsored Products auctions. Announcing an agent that decides placement and pacing on the advertiser’s behalf, weeks after being sued over auction opacity, is its own kind of narrative management.
DVA+ rolls out to all advertisers from late October through the end of the year, arriving in time for Q4 and for a small-business cohort where A.I. referrals are already outperforming other channels on revenue. The buying surface is collapsing faster than the disclosure regime around it.
