Adobe on September 24 began a global rollout that places Photoshop, Lightroom, Adobe Express, and Firefly inside Google’s Gemini assistant on every subscription tier, and on the same day folded Acrobat into its plugin for Anthropic’s Claude, which now spans more than 80 Adobe tools. The move is a distribution play. Adobe is quietly conceding that the chat window, not the Creative Cloud dock, is where a growing share of everyday design work now begins.
Access on Gemini runs through the Personal Intelligence panel: users select Adobe under connected apps and sign in. Adobe named three primary use cases for the launch, and each one reads as a small-business marketing brief. Optimizing lighting, color, and cropping for product photos. Adapting a single design into social-ready versions across channels. Personalizing Express templates for a campaign. This is a pitch aimed squarely at sellers and marketers who once needed a designer, a subscription stack, and the patience to move files between apps.
The Claude side of the announcement is the more mature product. The unified Adobe for Claude plugin now covers Acrobat, Express, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom, InDesign, and Adobe Stock, with a new interactive PDF editor whose Document Review skill writes recommendations directly onto the file, and a layer-based Express editor that lets a user change one image, one line of copy, or one color without regenerating the layout. Installations of the earlier Adobe connector update automatically, per Adobe.
Google’s framing was appropriately corporate. “We’re excited to expand our partnership with Adobe and bring industry-leading creative tools directly into Gemini,” said Neal Pancholi, Managing Director, Global Partnerships, GDM & Gemini, at Google, in a statement supplied for Adobe’s post. Adobe, for its part, called the Gemini release “the first step” with Google.
A few things Adobe didn’t say. PPC Land noted that Adobe describes Gemini as reaching “more than one billion people each month,” a figure that runs ahead of the 950 million monthly active users Alphabet last reported for the second quarter. Excluded countries, Google Workspace eligibility, and file-retention terms remain unspecified. SQ Magazine flagged that guest usage limits inside Claude are unpublished. The customer evidence Adobe offered is anecdotal, an unnamed photographer refining a series and an unnamed creative director who “significantly cut” development time on an eco-fashion campaign, with no time savings quantified.
For very small operators, the structural implication is the one that matters. Polished creative is a direct input to acquisition, and AI search increasingly rewards content quality over brand tenure, just as recent IAB research suggests professional-looking creative influences whether shoppers trust a small brand’s recommendations. Adobe has decided the way to defend that surface is to live inside somebody else’s assistant.
